Adam Scott to sport latest UNIQLO products at the 2015 Masters

UNIQLO is proud to announce that its Global Brand Ambassador, professional golfer Adam Scott, will sport the latest UNIQLO products that he helped developed at the 2015 Masters tournament. Product highlights include highly functional Dry Stretch Pants, Polo Shirts with exceptional perspiration absorbing and quick-drying properties, and AIRism innerwear. The 2015 Masters will take place in Augusta, Georgia from April 9, 2015.

UNIQLO updates and improves its clothing every season, based on feedback from its professional athlete Global Brand Ambassadors, to ensure optimal comfort and functionality. For example, this season’s Dry Stretch Pants reflected feedback from Adam Scott to include a pocket suitable for a golf score sheet and course map, while the material for the waist section is now a highly breathable fabric. Adam also contributed to the design process which resulted in UNIQLO adopting a tapered silhouette and developing a new wool-like pattern for a smarter look both on the course and around town.

Adam Scott commented, “Wanting to improve is important in whatever you do. My goal is to be a better golfer, and quality, innovative materials and products help me to achieve this. The new pants allow me to perform better, and I am pleased that UNIQLO makes that possible. I have advanced with UNIQLO over the last two years, and I am certain that we will continue to grow together."

"The clothes we developed are not just for golf, but reflect my personal style on the course. I don’t feel it necessary to dress specifically for golf - being able to play in clothes that I can also wear out for dinner or drinks after a round is a natural progression.”

ADAM SCOTT OUTFITS FOR THE 2015 MASTERS:

Day 1

The featured items are priced as follows: Dry EX Polo Shirt - $29.90, Dry Stretch Pants - $59.90, AIRism V Neck T-Shirt - $14.90, Belt - $29.90.

Dry Stretch Pants – Lightweight, stretchable, and fast-drying

UNIQLO Highly functional Dry Stretch Pants were jointly developed with Adam Scott, and are extremely lightweight, stretchable, and fast-drying. The 100% polyester material, jointly developed with Toray, features a cotton-like natural texture, with exceptional moisture absorption and quick-drying properties, lessening the discomfort from perspiration, and making them extremely comfortable. The polyester material resists wrinkling, making them easy to care for.

The new Dry Stretch Pants are 20% lighter than UNIQLO’s previous version (compared to UNIQLO’s Dry Flat Front Pants; and except wool-like plain style).

They are also highly stretchable, with an expansion rate of greater than 20% (except pattern styles), for optimal comfort.

Day 2

New material, with improved breathability

A new Airdots material has been used for the pocket backing, an area prone to stuffiness, to improve breathability. A special processing technology creates grid-shaped air vents, making it appropriate as athletic gear.

New wool-like pattern suitable for the office

New wool-like patterns are added this season, alongside the standard plain colors. Despite being 100% polyester, the surface of the new patterns looks like wool, making them particularly suitable for the office. The silhouette has also been revised, with slightly altered positions for the knee, hem, and back pocket, to make the leg appear longer.

Day 3

Polo Shirts – Universal appeal

UNIQLO is offering men’s polo shirts in a variety of colours and pattern variations for this season. The Dry Shirt Collar Polo Shirt, a shirt-tailored polo suitable for business or formal occasions, and the Dry EX Polo Shirt, made with the highly functional Dry EX material worn by professional golfers and tennis players such as Adam Scott and Novak Djokovic. The Dry EX Polo Shirt in particular is 20% lighter. With the dry functionality essential to face the summer heat, the Dry EX Polo is especially practical and suitable not only for sports, but also the office.

AIRism – Innerwear, for ultimate comfort

The ultimate in comfortable innerwear, Adam Scott is particularly fond of AIRism, and he regularly wears it both on and off the course. The ultrathin fibers are light as air, to the point that you forget you are wearing it, as they regulate the flow of the air around the body. AIRism also features dry functionality, and odour elimination and antibacterial properties, making it suitable for both sports and everyday life.

Lexus NX300h

WORDS: BEN 'BENG' CHIA

Perhaps the first thing you should know about the NX300h is that Lexus chose a highly unusual venue for its launch...

IT SEEMS ONLY natural that golfers should have some sort of natural affinity for Lexus. Here is a brand, after all, whose tagline is “The relentless pursuit of perfection”, and what’s an afternoon spent at the driving range but that? Yet, the NX300h was launched at a fairly unusual venue, and it wasn’t a golf course. Instead, Lexus chose the KF1 karting circuit as the place to unveil the NX300h. That tells you something about this new Sports Utility Vehicle.

To start with, however, you might think of SUVs as cars that are meant to get muddy. Yet, the vast majority of people who drive them never venture off the tarmac — well over 90 percent, by one manufacturer’s reckoning. But the format is an increasingly popular one, especially when it comes to “crossover” vehicles, the relatively new breed of cars that look the part with tall suspension and rugged styling, but come without the utilitarian hardware needed for serious off-roading. BMW launched the X5 in 1999, for instance, and has since added the X3, X1, X6 and X4 to its family of crossovers, with a behemoth X7 currently under development.

Here’s where the NX300h comes in. Lexus might be thought of as something of a pioneer in the luxury crossover field, having launched the RX300 in 1998 to great success, and the NX expands on the idea by offering a similar proposition in a slightly smaller format. A quick glance at it tells you that it’s most likely meant for a youthful audience too. There’s a sculpted aspect to the Lexus’ styling, with lines that communicate aggression and solidity. Whereas most cars look like they begin life as marker lines on a sketch pad, the NX300h resembles something hewn from a mass of material, like the work of a sculptor who works with wood and a samurai sword.

The sculptural styling continues on the inside as well. There’s the feel of trademark quality and heft from Lexus to the cabin, but visually it’s as dynamic in there as it is on the outside. There are bold angles and strong lines in the dashboard’s design, yet it’s still a soothing place to be. Much of that is down to the cabin materials, I suspect. Fine leather, careful stitching and metallic surfaces adorn the interior, and it’s easy to see that careful attention has been paid to how everything looks and feels in there. The cabin lights brighten up gradually instead of flicking to life, for instance, and the various buttons and knobs all work with a suitable amount of weightiness. Even the way the compartment lids feel carefully engineered in the way they slide open and shut.

The NX300h is Lexus-like in other ways, too. One key aspect of the brand has always been about how it pampers occupants, and so there are features designed to take the hassle out of everyday actions. An SUV should offer versatility when it comes to the ability to haul cargo around, for instance, and the Lexus has folding rear seats like most of them. Unlike many, however, it has rear seats that tip forward or straighten up at the touch of a button. The tailgate is also button-operated, so it’s possible to convert the NX300h from a five-seater to a two-seater that’s ready to accept a large load of clobber, while seated in the driver’s chair. Other conveniences include a new touchpad controller with force-feedback to make navigating the entertainment systems menus a cinch, and even a wireless charging pad for phones that have inductive charging abilities.

While the NX300h’s cabin is in some ways more lounge than car, though, there’s a reason the Lexus was launched at a go-kart circuit. That’s hinted at as you climb aboard and first take hold of the steering wheel. It’s on the small side in terms of diameter, which means twirling it rapidly involves your wrists rather than your elbows, and it’s nice and chunky to hold. But even then it comes as a minor surprise to find out that the Lexus is an unfeasibly satisfying car to throw around. Responsive steering makes it eager to change direction, and in spite of its height there’s a great deal of poise through corners. Indeed, the NX300h is one of those rare cars that mixes fast reflexes with stability and O-M-G good looks… yeah, get one.

The Dynamic Duo

BY Sanders Jones

Now, wouldn’t you like to ride this…

While other watch manufacturers were trying to generate excitement over the merits of their new timepieces at this year’s Baselworld, luxury
French company Bell & Ross wowed the crowd with a one-off, retro-futuristic… MOTOCYCLE!

Called the “B-Rocket”, it is inspired by the aviation experiments of the 60s’. Following the success of the “Nascafe Racer” – a custom motorcycle jointly designed by Bell & Ross and British custom bike shop Shaw Harley-Davidson Speed and Custom three years ago as a marketing tool for the luxury watch brand, both companies were excited to team up again; this time, to launch a completely out-ofthis- world concept motorcycle.
The Nascafe Racer, which features the Bell & Ross logo and a BR-01 watch mounted in the fuel tank, not only successfully exposed the watch brand to a wider audience, but also garnered a ton of press coverage for the brand.

The huge success of the Nascafe Racer then prompted Bruno Belamich, co-founder of Bell & Ross, to work together with Shaw again to build a truly unique concept bike, which is based on the watch brand’s associations with military aircraft.

Unlike the fi rst collaboration, where the watch brand played a minor role in the build, the B-Rocket incorporates a lot more creative and innovative ideas from founders Belamich and Carlos Rosillo. Belamich sketched out an idea of what the B-Rocket might look like before passing it to Shaw, who worked on it from there. The end result, as you can see, is what they call an “aeroplane motorcycle” – its aerodynamic lines evoke the iconic jet planes of the 60s’, and the speed bikes of Nevada in the US.

THE BIKE
Streamlined and aerodynamic, the B-Rocket, featuring a Harley-Davidson Softail Blackline FXS V-Twin is meant to go fast – for optimum aerodynamics, the bike requires its rider to sit at an extremely low driving position or as their makers put it, ensures that the motorcycle and rider are as one. For the rider’s comfort, strips of padded leather are placed on the centre of the fuel tank and turbines where the knees rest. A conical nose resembling that of a jet plane is attached at the front to improve air intake. A matte black strip crosses the glossy paintwork for an anti-reflective effect and a glass windscreen enables the rider to see his route. Meanwhile, two adjustable fins on either side of the fork, designed to resemble small wings, can be used to increase or reduce contact with the ground.

THE WATCHES
A watch company after all, Bell & Ross also unveiled two new B-Rocket inspired watches at Baselworld this year; the BR-01 B-Rocket (46mm) and the BR-03 B-Rocket (42mm). The first is a chronograph featuring a large minutes counter with a tachymetric scale on the outer edge of the
dial. It also comprises three uniquely designed counters, which provide further information: a 60-second, 30-minute and 12-hour counter.

In the more elaborate BR-03 B-Rocket version, the 42 mm satinbrushed steel case is fitted with two complications. The hours, minutes
and seconds display also features a large date window and a powerreserve indicator. Additionally, the circular power-reserve counter at 6 o’clock is reminiscent of the fuel gauge commonly seen on racing motorcycles or cars.

Finally, both watches are fitted with a padded leather strap, which is directly inspired by the bike’s cushioning, where the rider lies almost completely prone to pilot the bike.

GOOD SCOTT GREAT PANTS

WORDS Sanders Jones

Cool, collected, a ladies man, and a dude’s best friend, Adam Scott makes UNIQLO look awesome in golf… or is it the other way around?

Over the past two decades, Japanese casual wear designer, manufacturer and retailer UNIQLO has established a reputation for itself in the world of sports. Notable milestones include furnishing the uniforms for Japan’s Olympic athletes in the 1998, 2002, and 2004 Olympic Games, as well as the J. League’s Thespa Kusatsu team.

In recent years, UNIQLO has teamed up with some of the world’s top athletes including tennis ace Novak Djokovic and golf’s very own Adam Scott.

The Aussie hunk had been credited as a fashion icon for years, putting together classy and timeless garb that complements rather than incredulously mystify – read: John Daly, although we love the big guy – and this is no different. After turning professional 14 years back, he’s been hailed as the next big thing, with a (then) swing and (previous) coach that mimics the finest player of his generation, Tiger Woods.

Now, at 34, he’s finally achieved it all – a Green Jacket and a ‘World Number One’ tag to his name; with UNIQLO glaring across his left breast and those tight buns that we all love to hate.

“It has been most enjoyable working with people across both the golf and fashion industries to develop these pants,” says the 2013 Masters champ on the latest UNIQLO Dry Stretch Pants that he uses week in and out on Tour.

Those pants form part of the Japanese brand’s LifeWear’s line of clothing designed and made for everyone, not just pro athletes and Scotty has been instrumental in its design.

“I’ve been wearing these Dry Stretch Pants during competition for the past several months now, and the level of comfort is excellent. I really like the fact that they don’t look like golf pants, so you can wear them anywhere. I also like that they are made from a super quick-drying and lightweight material, which makes these pants equally suitable for the office or other more formal settings.”

Inspired by the functionality Adam Scott requires, and with an eye to anyone who struggles through the hot summer months, (Ed: Like all of us here in the tropics…) UNIQLO collaborated with Japanese chemicals and materials expert Toray, for a new fabric, which is 100% special polyester that not only features exceptional stretch properties, but it is also very lightweight - around half the weight of cotton. More pertinently, it also dries three times quicker.

Style conscious golfers and athletes alike are bound are fall in love with UNIQLO’s new range of Dry Stretch Pants, which are casually fashionable. Non-pleated, they bring a sharp waistline, while the stretch fabric offers a slim, clean look. Other plus points of these stylish looking pants are that they are wrinkle-free and flexible, making it easy to move with the golf swing or through your fav dance moves. Don’t do this in front of us though…
